What is Vegware Made From?

Many food businesses, including restaurants and cafes, have started to ditch single-use plastic because of how much it damages the environment. This move paves the way for a more sustainable planet.

Of course, that still leaves a problem – what can those businesses use for single-use packaging? Fortunately, disposable food packaging does not always have to end up in the landfill, not when you choose sustainable packaging like Vegware.

What is Vegware?

What is VegwVegware is an award-winning food packaging manufacturer specialising in plant-based, compostable products. Their extensive packaging range – including soup containers, tableware, straws, cutlery, and even sushi trays – is all commercially compostable. For restaurants, cafes, and street food vendors, Vegware is the perfect solution for going green.are?

Vegware Materials

Vegware is ‘made from plants’, but what does that mean? It helps to know exactly what the food packaging is made from so that you know just how sustainable and eco-friendly it is. Here are all the materials Vegware uses in its products.

Paper and Card

One of the primary materials used is paper and card, which are sustainably sourced (often from recycled paper). It gets used in various Vegware products, including soup containers.

Bagasse is a biodegradable material made from sugarcane pulp, which gets left behind after sugarcane harvesting (making it a plentiful material, too). It creates an excellent alternative to polystyrene for takeaway boxes and bowls.

Palm Leaf

Vegware uses fallen palm leaves to create compostable tableware which can withstand oily, wet, and hot foods! The products are made from palm leaves, meaning it’s entirely made of plants.

Polylactic Acid (PLA)

For Vegware’s lids and containers, PLA gets used as a lining. It’s a compostable bioplastic from fermented plant starch, including sugar beet pulp and cassava.

Made from starch, vegetable oils, thistle, or sugar beet pulp, mater-bi is a biodegradable, compostable material that creates Vegware’s bin liners and sacks.

NatureFlex is made from wood pulp and is always sourced sustainably. It creates the ideal transparent, grease-proof material for clear bags and windows placed in other products (to see inside the packaging). It’s an excellent alternative to clear plastic.

For food businesses that want custom printing on their products, Vegware uses only vegetable and water-based inks, making them completely biodegradable. It means that sustainable packaging can be attractive as well as eco-friendly.

BioPBS is a strong material made of natural resources, including corn, cassava, and sugarcane. Vegware uses it for the hot cup lids, as the lids need a strong lining material to keep the hot drink in place.
